Golf News: The Weekend Recap
Men and Women’s PGA:
USGA made a very big decision. They will no longer accept viewer call ins on rule infractions. The tour is taking complete control over the governing of any rule violations. Additionally, they are removing the two stroke penalty rule applied when a player signs a scorecard when an infraction “unknowingly” occurred. You may recall in April, Lexi Thompson getting hit with a 4 stroke penalty resulting from the above. 2 strokes for the rules infraction plus 2 strokes for signing her card not knowing she did anything wrong.
I think the decision by the USGA is very fair. My only question or concern comes when the governing bodies make a judgement call on whether or not a player knew about an infraction. I imagine the governing bodies will be glued to the monitors throughout tournament play and decisions will need to be made on the spot of the infraction. Hope this doesn’t slow down pace of play.
