The 2017 Charles Schwab Cup Championship points race came to an end this weekend at the Phoenix Country Club. Kevin Sutherland broke through with a 5-under 66 on Sunday to win the tournament and top the points race to close out this season’s points race. This is Sutherland’s first 50 and over tour win. Also, an example of the playoff format and points system over the entire season. Sutherland came in to the tournament 5th in points without a win all season. But his consistent play all year kept him on the leader board and in the points hunt. On the other hand, Bernhardt Langer, lead the tour this year with 7 victories, including 3 of the 5 majors. But his 12th place finish this weekend allowed for Sutherland to overtake him in the points lead and claim the cup.
